I am looking at a two hr/25 mile ride on Friday starting at 7am and ending in Derby, 4 hours/55 miles on Saturday at 7am, 2 hrs/25 miles on Sunday at 7am.
Richard Watkinson hasasked me to post, on his behalf, that if the weather isn’t too terrible and if he is in Nottingham then he would like to go out for a couple of hours on Saturday morning – if interested then contact me and I can put you in touch via e mail.
Is your Sat 7am a Beeston start and finish? If yes, I’m up for it.
My Saturday 4 hour ride is Beeston start and finish. Tony put a route up the other day but I managed to delete it. With the longer run out then this route might do the trick:

@ Adrian I’m out Sunday for a 50/60, but would like to meet up and ride together for some of your 25 miler if possible. I might even manage a 25 mile ride Saturday morning, but will stay closer to home.
@ Tony – I can head to The Plank for Sunday and then go out with you and turn round at whatever point I hit 12.5 miles.
I reckon that means we’ll do about 4.5 miles together…….anybody else going a bit further?
@ Tony, I can ride with Adrian to the plank meet up with you and ride on with you after Adrian turns back?
@ Mark – are you in work today? Perhaps if you are free I can pop over for a coffee/tea and pick up my gels. I am free 2-3pm today.
Lee
@ Lee, of course i’m at work today! (Don’t you start, ha ha!) Just not sure what time, i’ll drop you a text if i’m there between 2 and 3.
Great Ride! Sun and blue sky… Cheers Mark and thanks for the tea. Don’t work to hard.
Yep! Enjoyed that, fantastic weather, thanks for the company Paul and Judy, I never work to hard.
Saturday … just done a review of the training plan and Rich, Adam and I need to get something a bit hilly in so we will be going from Beeston at 6.30pm for a roll over to Ashbourne and back. It will be a steady ride, with hills. Feel free to come but make sure you are equipped to get home if the pace is too rich for you ( I know I will have to take a back up plan!)
Iam looking to do a flat 50.
Anyone up for that on Saturday morning?
@ Tony – what a great 4.5 miles though
@Adrian…..I hope so!
@Mark….that’s great, see you both Sunday 7.30 at the Plank.
@ tony, looking forward to it, how do you feel about rain? I’m not up for riding in the pouring rain………sorry! Am i nesh?
I did my hilly ride on Tuesday a.m. so happy to do a flat 50 with you John and any other takers. 7am at Argos?
@neshy – says it all, I think
@Mark…light showers forecast for Sunday, might not be too bad.
I got to check in for 3pm EMA flight, so i guess i can fit in a ride. What are the Argos options?
@mike, anywhere nice?
France skiing, to test the new improved thighs!
Just a recap on the flat 50 miler!
Malc, Me, Sean and……????
Had two punctures today in the pissing rain!
Waiting for the third!
Has anyone used ‘slime’ in a lightish tyre (mtbs don’t count as they are unaffected by the extra weight apparently)? I have read some reviews saying it is great and quite a lot saying that it completely changes the wheel and makes a bike quite unsteady. If it works I would be well up for it on my commuting bike but it is expensive ….
Hi Adrian,
I use them on my training bike. The wheel dynamics do change but I don’t think it makes for an unstable wheel. Because of the weight of the slime inside the tube the centrifugal force is pushes the slime to the outside as the wheel rotates.I suppose that might upset the balance under the tyre? But it does work when I lived in London I used both slime and Armadillo tyres expensive yes…bomb proof yes!If you fit them and once they are inflated spin the front wheel…it goes on forever!
They work for me.
Allez…
I will investigate some more then ….
@Mark & Adrian…weather forecast is horrible early tomorrow and I have the chance to go out a bit later,so I will be leaving Derby at 8.00am. I’m happy to meet up if you, or anyone else, is ut at that time?
I can’t go later and after today’s icy nastiness am happy to use the turbo tomorrow night
@ Tony, Adrian i will struggle to make it later so will have to give it a miss.
More than one Neshy me thinks?!!
“Slip Sliding Away”
Taht was my theme tune for todays ride.
We were going down hills slower than I was going up, how scary is that!
Thanks Malc and Paul
Bet I went slower downhill than you !
Yes, all a bit slippy slidey but still a good ride. At least it warmed up and the sun came out. John’s promised to wear his cycle shorts next week, so perhaps a different theme tune…”something for the honies”???
judy here
@malc – Tim is taking Caroline ( Beth’s swimming coach) out for a swiftish 30 miles to get her “trained up” for the saturday rides. Provisional dates are 7th and 21st Feb and 7th March in the morning. Would Steff be interested in this as well – as part of her triathlon training??
@ all other drones, please would you “remind” the honies that there is a ride to Holme Pierpont this friday leaving 9am straight from school. Please lend them your best gear to keep out the cold and wind.
Thanks!
