  5. My Saturday 4 hour ride is Beeston start and finish. Tony put a route up the other day but I managed to delete it. With the longer run out then this route might do the trick:

  14. Saturday … just done a review of the training plan and Rich, Adam and I need to get something a bit hilly in so we will be going from Beeston at 6.30pm for a roll over to Ashbourne and back. It will be a steady ride, with hills. Feel free to come but make sure you are equipped to get home if the pace is too rich for you ( I know I will have to take a back up plan!)

  26. Has anyone used ‘slime’ in a lightish tyre (mtbs don’t count as they are unaffected by the extra weight apparently)? I have read some reviews saying it is great and quite a lot saying that it completely changes the wheel and makes a bike quite unsteady. If it works I would be well up for it on my commuting bike but it is expensive ….

    Comment by adpugh | January 23, 2009 | Reply

  27. Hi Adrian,
I use them on my training bike. The wheel dynamics do change but I don’t think it makes for an unstable wheel. Because of the weight of the slime inside the tube the centrifugal force is pushes the slime to the outside as the wheel rotates.I suppose that might upset the balance under the tyre? But it does work when I lived in London I used both slime and Armadillo tyres expensive yes…bomb proof yes!If you fit them and once they are inflated spin the front wheel…it goes on forever!

    They work for me.

    Allez…

  32. “Slip Sliding Away”
Taht was my theme tune for todays ride.
We were going down hills slower than I was going up, how scary is that!
    Thanks Malc and Paul

    Comment by johnmccay | January 24, 2009 | Reply

  33. Bet I went slower downhill than you !

    Comment by adpugh | January 24, 2009 | Reply

  34. Yes, all a bit slippy slidey but still a good ride. At least it warmed up and the sun came out. John’s promised to wear his cycle shorts next week, so perhaps a different theme tune…”something for the honies”???

    Comment by malcsullivan | January 25, 2009 | Reply

  35. judy here

@malc – Tim is taking Caroline ( Beth’s swimming coach) out for a swiftish 30 miles to get her “trained up” for the saturday rides. Provisional dates are 7th and 21st Feb and 7th March in the morning. Would Steff be interested in this as well – as part of her triathlon training??

@ all other drones, please would you “remind” the honies that there is a ride to Holme Pierpont this friday leaving 9am straight from school. Please lend them your best gear to keep out the cold and wind.
    Thanks!
